Sioux Falls Master Windshield offers windshield replacement in Dell Rapids, SD, on our Monday and Wednesday van runs up SD 115. We fill the deep chips that crushed quartzite leaves behind, set new glass in cars and work trucks, and calibrate lane cameras. Route days cost the shop price.
You can't miss it: Dell Rapids is a quarry town. The high school teams are the Quarriers, the main street went back up in Sioux quartzite after a fire, and L.G. Everist works two big quartzite quarries at the edge of town. That rock gets crushed and trucked out on SD 115 and I-29, and some of it finds your windshield on the way. Here's what we fix most:
SDDOT has lanes closed on about three miles of SD 115 near Dell Rapids for concrete and asphalt patching. The work is due to finish by November 20, 2026.
Fresh patches leave loose bits on the road for a few weeks. Give the car ahead extra room in the work zone, and if something ticks the glass, look for the chip that night.
Sioux quartzite is about the hardest rock around. L.G. Everist says it chews through the liners in its crushers every two weeks. Once it's crushed and loaded, those pieces keep razor edges, and a sharp stone off a truck tire hits harder than a round river pebble. Most weeks we fill a few Dell Rapids chips with that clean, deep cone.
Here's how we think about it. Your windshield is a catcher's chest protector: nobody notices it until the foul tip, and then it's all that matters. It helps hold the roof up in a rollover and backs up the passenger airbag. So a deep chip deserves a look.
Aggregate trucks on SD 115 and I-29
Leaving Dell Rapids, you either go south on SD 115 (it becomes Cliff Avenue in Sioux Falls) or west on 4th Street to I-29 exit 98. Quarry trucks use both. Give them a lot of room, and please don't pass one on a two-lane right as it pulls out of the pit road.
Storm season
Storms hit hard up here too. The May 12, 2022 derecho knocked trees down all over town and damaged an outbuilding at the high school, going by the storm reports. After a night like that, Dell Rapids claims fill our calendar for a week or two.
Types of Auto Glass Work We Do in Dell Rapids
Loader and quarry truck glass
Cab glass on loaders and haul trucks is mostly flat, which means we make custom cut glass from a pattern of the old piece. Depending on the spot, we cut laminated glass or tempered glass (tempered breaks into pebbles, laminated holds together). Then we set it in your yard or at the shop.
Car and pickup windshields
Any windshield we install carries an AS1 marking, the little stamp in the corner that makes it legal for the front. It goes onto a cleaned, primed pinchweld (the metal lip of the opening) in a fresh bead of urethane. If a forward-facing camera sits up by the mirror, we calibrate it before you drive off.
Budget glass for work trucks
Good news: if one fits your vehicle, a blemished windshield runs $145 plus tax installed. It's new glass with a tiny cosmetic mark that has nothing to do with safety. Honestly, on a work truck that eats rock all year, it's what we'd pick.
Chips filled on the route
Resin injection takes about 20 minutes per chip, so we fill them on the same route day as the other Dell Rapids jobs. Plenty of insurers pay for chip repair in full under comprehensive coverage.
How Much Is Windshield Replacement in Dell Rapids?
Windshield replacement in Dell Rapids runs about $280 to $550 on a vehicle without sensors and $650 to $1,400 with a lane camera that needs calibration. A blemished windshield is $145 plus tax where one fits. Route-day visits cost the same as the shop, with no fee for the drive north.
From our shop, Dell Rapids is roughly 20 miles and a half hour in the van. So we book Dell Rapids work on set days, most Mondays and Wednesdays, and do it all in one trip. Same-day isn't something we promise up here. If you call by Friday, you'll usually make Monday's run.
From there it's simple. Send a photo and the last six of your VIN, we text back a firm price, and the night before you get a two-hour window. We need dry glass and about 20°F or warmer, and the safe drive-away time after the glass is set is usually 30 to 60 minutes. Straight up, in January we'd rather you bring it down to the heated shop.
Heading back toward the city? We also cover Brandon, east of Sioux Falls.
Most Mondays and Wednesdays. We group Dell Rapids jobs so one van makes the trip up SD 115 with a full day of work. Call by the end of the week before for the best shot at Monday. If you can't wait for a route day, drive to our heated shop on any weekday.
Can you fix glass at a quarry or job site?
A lot of the time, yes, as long as the vehicle can sit somewhere flat, dry and away from the dust. Fine rock dust in fresh urethane weakens the bond, so a shop building or a quiet corner of the yard is best. Tell us your site's safety rules ahead of time so the installer brings the right gear.
Why do quartzite chips seem worse than other chips?
Crushed quartzite is hard and sharp, so it tends to leave deep, clean breaks instead of shallow scuffs. A deep chip near the edge is more likely to spread. Most still fill fine with resin if you call within a few days and keep the chip clean and dry until then.
Is a cheaper windshield worth it on a work truck?
Most of the time, yes. A blemished windshield is new glass with a small cosmetic mark, and it's $145 plus tax installed where one fits your truck. The safety rating is the same as any new windshield. On a truck that runs quarry roads daily, saving a few hundred bucks each time adds up quick.

What our customers say
Rock chip repair
A gravel truck on I-29 put a star chip right in front of me. They fixed it in my work parking lot on my lunch break and insurance paid the whole thing. You honestly can't see where it was.
Megan T.Southwest Sioux Falls
Windshield + ADAS calibration
New windshield on our Highlander, and they did the camera calibration right after. Lane assist works like it did from the factory. They called my insurance with me on the line, so it took ten minutes.
Brian H.Brandon
Back glass replacement
Somebody broke my back window over the weekend. Called Monday morning, it was in by Monday afternoon and they vacuumed every last bit of glass out of the seats.
Alyssa R.Tea
Windshield replacement
It was 6 degrees, so they told me to bring the truck to the shop instead of doing it in my driveway. Glad they did. No leaks, no wind noise, fair price.
