Sioux Falls Master Windshield does windshield replacement in Crooks, SD, mostly in driveways and garages, since the van's only a few exits up I-29 from us. We also fill rock chips and calibrate lane cameras out there. A Crooks visit costs the shop price, not a dime more.
Back in 1968 Crooks had maybe 150 people. Now it's pushing 1,500, according to the Crooks Development Corp., and the backhoes are still busy. New streets bring dump trucks, gravel lots and mud on fresh pavement. Then everyone heads past the I-90 cloverleaf to work. Honestly, it's a recipe for chipped glass. Here's what we see the most:
Heads up for the next few years. SDDOT is studying a rebuilt exit 86, with design running through 2028 and digging around 2029. They expect 5,000 to 14,000 cars a day there by 2030.
Work zones mean loose stone on the ramps. Hang back from the gravel trucks, and if something ticks the glass, get it filled before the first hard freeze.
Nine times out of ten, a Crooks windshield call starts the same way. Somebody's building on the block (Heritage Pond alone has 68 lots), and the street stays half gravel for a season. A fill truck drops pebbles, a tire flicks one up, and your glass catches it. The commute adds the rest. From exit 86 it's two miles to the I-90 interchange, and the semis merge there at full speed.
Chips that turn into cracks in December
Watch out for a star break, the kind of chip with little legs running out from the hit. It sits quiet all fall. Then the first morning you crank the defroster on frozen glass, thermal shock stretches those legs into a real crack. We see it every year: a Crooks chip that would've been a $90 fix in August turns into a new windshield by Thanksgiving.
Late-model cars, late-model cameras
Crooks driveways are full of newer SUVs, and almost every one has a forward-facing camera up by the mirror running lane keeping and auto braking. So the job isn't just glass. We order the exact part number for your VIN, set it, then calibrate the camera. Honestly, we won't give the keys back until that last step is done.
Types of Auto Glass Work We Do in Crooks
Rock chip repair
If a dollar bill covers the damage, it can usually be fixed. That's the dollar-bill rule. We use resin injection: pull the air out of the chip, fill it with clear resin and harden it under a UV lamp. About 20 minutes a chip.
Full windshield replacement
Every US windshield is laminated glass, two sheets with a plastic layer between them. When a crack runs past about 6 inches or reaches the edge, we cut the old glass out, clean and prime the frame, and set the new one in fresh urethane adhesive.
Camera calibration
Calibration comes two ways. Static calibration happens in the shop, with the camera aimed at printed target boards set at measured distances. Dynamic calibration is a drive at set speeds with a scan tool plugged in. Some cars want one, some want both.
Door and back glass
Side and back windows are tempered glass, which crumbles into pebbles. There's nothing to repair, so we vacuum up the mess and set a new one. Car window replacement has the details.
How Much Does Windshield Replacement in Crooks Cost?
Windshield replacement in Crooks usually costs $280 to $550 for a car without a camera and $650 to $1,400 with a camera that needs calibration. A first rock chip runs about $60 to $120. Crooks is inside our normal mobile area, so there's no trip charge and you pay the shop price.

A Driveway Visit in Crooks, Step by Step
Most Crooks jobs happen at home, since the drive out is short. Here's how a visit usually goes:
Text a photo of the damage and the last six of your VIN. We send back a firm price.
We pick a morning or afternoon slot, and the day before we text you a two-hour arrival window.
The van parks in your driveway (a street spot is fine too). We cover the hood and dash, cut out the old glass and set the new one.
The urethane gets its safe drive-away time, usually 30 to 60 minutes, before the car goes anywhere.
Think of that wait like the oil on a bowling lane. You let it set up before anybody throws, and cold air makes it take longer. That's why we need dry glass and about 20°F or warmer. If it's colder or windy, the car comes to our heated shop instead at the same price. Straight up, a 15-minute drive beats a leak next spring.
Got family a few miles north? We also cover Baltic, on the far side of I-29.
No. Crooks sits inside our regular mobile area, so a driveway visit costs the same as bringing the car to our shop. The van comes up I-29 to exit 86, a short drive from Sioux Falls. We'll text you a two-hour arrival window the day before the job so you can plan around it.
Can you work at a house that's still being built?
Usually, yes. We need a flat spot, dry glass and about 20°F or warmer. A gravel driveway works if the wind isn't blowing dust around, since grit in fresh urethane weakens the bond. If the lot is muddy or gusty, we'll suggest your garage, a neighbor's slab or our heated shop instead.
Will my commute crack a chip you've filled?
It shouldn't. Once a chip is filled, it's stronger than it was open, and everyday driving won't run it. The resin keeps water and grit out, too. A brand-new rock is another story. If you take a fresh hit near the I-90 interchange, call us early, since a clean new chip fills clearer than an old dirty one.
Do I have to use my insurance company's glass shop?
No. You have the right to choose your glass shop, and the insurer's network shop is only a suggestion. If you carry comprehensive coverage, we call the insurer with you on the line and set up the claim. You pay your deductible, and many policies pay for chip repair in full.

What our customers say
Rock chip repair
A gravel truck on I-29 put a star chip right in front of me. They fixed it in my work parking lot on my lunch break and insurance paid the whole thing. You honestly can't see where it was.
Megan T.Southwest Sioux Falls
Windshield + ADAS calibration
New windshield on our Highlander, and they did the camera calibration right after. Lane assist works like it did from the factory. They called my insurance with me on the line, so it took ten minutes.
Brian H.Brandon
Back glass replacement
Somebody broke my back window over the weekend. Called Monday morning, it was in by Monday afternoon and they vacuumed every last bit of glass out of the seats.
Alyssa R.Tea
Windshield replacement
It was 6 degrees, so they told me to bring the truck to the shop instead of doing it in my driveway. Glad they did. No leaks, no wind noise, fair price.
